Publishing Philosophy

The publishers of The Guide for LDS in Southern Nevada understand that in today's media-rich society it is easy to transmit and use information of all types—with both good and harmful effects.

There is a fine balance needed when disseminating reference information like that which is included in The Guide—it needs to be helpful to the target audience without being potentially hurtful through misuse or abuse.

All of our publishing decisions are prioritized:

• Our professional intention is first and foremost to best serve the interests of the Church, its members and leaders.
• Appropriate commercial sponsorship that supports this is secondary. We publish only sponsor messages that represent LDS standards and tie into the content of the publication. We do not publish polical messages.
• Personal monetary gain is tertiary.
  

For many years now, we have committed ourselves to the following policy on what information we publish in print and post to the Internet.

Publishing / Posting Policy

1. All published reference information is to be taken from public sources or received directly from Church leaders at our request.
   
   Only information that has been official released by the Church, its local leaders and agents will be published.
   
   
2. Information is double-checked against two sources to assure it is accurate.
   
   
3. Both stake and ward leaders are given opportunities to provide information for the ward/stake listings.
   
   The policy of publishing phone numbers is disclosed on the request form, which is we will not publish in print any unlisted phone numbers of individuals who so wish it. This is left to the discretion of the leaders who provide us the information. Any phone number appearing in the Embarq phone directory will be used.
   
   
4. Any requests for new types of information is discussed with local Church leaders/agents to determine if it is appropriate and whether or not it should be included. Not all requests are or have been honored.
   
   
5. The Guide in part is published on the Internet at LasVegasLDSGuide.com. Most pages are posted as appearing in the printed version, but are in locked pdf format for downloading. Stake pages are edited so that phone numbers are not listed. Names appearing are not searchable or indexable by web search engines because they are in pdf format.
   
   
6. Scalable maps are separately posted so that they can be downloaded and used for non-commercial purposes by Church membership.
   
   
7. Maps and leadership rosters (names only) are updated on the web as soon as known by the publishers.
   
   
8. Email and mailing addresses collected during the updating process are only used for corresponding with leaders in future updates. They are not published.
